Book excerpt: The lifestyle of kids growing up in the 1940's and 50's were quite different from those in the generations that followed. We had more freedom to roam and explore. We had many experiences that were common to us that the young people of today will never know. I wanted my children and grandchildren to know what we did as youngsters, how we thought, the problems we encountered, our experiences and how we saw the world through the eyes of a teenager. My grandparents were youngsters before the civil war and I have often wondered what they experienced growing up and I never had the opportunity to find out. This book will give my grandchildren and those that follow, how we lived through the depression years, WWII and the Korean Conflict. As I look back, I would have to say, our generation was blessed and growing up was some of the best years of our life.
