He theorizes that the Dark Spectrum are electromagnetic waves in the air that humans could gain access to because they are cellular "antennas". He and research assistant, a man who goes by the name "X" use highly advanced technology known as anthracites to construct suits that can activate the individual wearer's affinity. Shapiro and X test these suits on four college students. The test is a success, but little did these young heroes know Shapiro has a hidden agenda.
