Book excerpt: This book is about critically analyzing the proposal of the African Union in creating a criminal jurisdiction in the African Court of Justice and Human Rights (ACJHR). This proposal, if implemented, will enable the ACJHR to try international crimes such as genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity when it is committed in Africa. As it can easily be anticipated the proposal will immediately pose the question about the possible conflict of jurisdiction with the already existing International Criminal Court (ICC) to try these international crimes especially with those African countries which accepted and signed the Rome Statute establishing the ICC. To this effect the book tries to see the pros and cons of this proposal and as well it shows the various questions and complaints that Africans have towards the ICC.
