Book excerpt: "Glencoe Mill Village used to be a thriving community that was alive with the textile industry. The Mill later fell on hard times and until recently was an abandoned village. When Preservation North Carolina bought Glencoe Village the Village was handed a second chance. The houses have all been renovated even the old barbershop has been revitalized yet the mill buildings still stand abandoned. With plans to renovate the main mill and warehouse into apartments/condos there will soon be a need for a social hub. As the community begins to come alive there is a perfect opportunity to renovate the Machine Shop into a Café. The Machine Shop is centrally located allowing it to be a perfect location for a community gathering space. Glencoe Café will be a place where old and young alike can come together enjoying the history that has been left behind. Taking the Machine Shop and creating a Café with WIFI the community of Glencoe Mill will be brought into the twenty-first century with modern technology."--Page 5.
