This guide contains a compendium of measures designed to ensure their safety, efficacy and quality, and is particularly intended for blood transfusion services. In accordance with the approach recommended by the Council of Europe in this field, it starts from the premise of voluntary and non-remunerated blood donation and lays down the principles to be followed in the selection of donors and the collection of blood. It describes, in monograph form, the different blood components, emphasises measures required for quality assurance and gives information on their clinical indication and possible side effects.
