Book excerpt: Renal disease/chronic kidney failure is one of the most common disease among diabetic patients however hypertension, substance abuse, cancer and many other health conditions can cause renal failure. Despite the reason for renal failure, once the patient diagnosed with renal failure and end up with dialysis, they have to go through many physiological changes and have to deal with multiple psychological issues like, anger, depression, anxiety et cetera One of the major changes in their daily life is fluid restriction and dietary medication like, low potassium, low phosphorus and low sodium diet. The main problem/educational deficit among the dialysis patients is their difficulty in following renal diet/fluid restriction. This leads to multiple complications like, hyperkalemia followed with cardiac issues, fluid overload followed with pulmonary congestion and congestive heart failure, hyperphosphatemia followed with bone issues, hypoalbuminemia followed with recurrent infections and many other complications associated with dialysis (National Kidney Foundation [NKF]). In order to overcome this problem this writer planned a teaching program regarding dietary modification as a proposal for change. If the patients are educated, the quality of their life will be improved and can avoid unnecessary hospitalizations (NKF).
