When represented as a percentage of the total cost, it is frequently used. Additionally, in order to generate a profit and cover the expenses that are associated with running a business, a markup is added to the total cost that is incurred by the producer of a product or service. A product's total cost is the sum of all of its expenses, both fixed and variable, that are incurred during the manufacturing and distribution processes. In addition to being expressed as a fixed sum, markup can also be expressed as a percentage of the total cost or selling price.
