He immigrated to America in 1657 and settled in New Amstel, Delaware. He married Barbara de Barrette in 1659. They moved to St. Mary's City, Maryland in 1664. Barbara died in 1670 after the birth of their third child. He married Mary Smith in about 1676 and had seven more children. Garrett died in 1698 in Maryland. Descendants and relatives lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Texas, Missouri and elsewhere.
