Book excerpt: Excerpt from The National Eclectic Medical Association Quarterly, 1910, Vol. 1: A Journal of Eclectic Medicine and Surgery, Comprising the Proceedings, Papers and Discussions of the Association and Published in the Interest of the Eclectic School of Medicine The Secretary called the roll of officers and declared a quorum present. The meeting was opened with the following prayer by Rev. Joseph J. Rae, of Chicago. Our Father, we ask Thy blessing upon this great meeting about to be held here. We can smile to think of the great completeness flowing around our incompleteness. Let the great glad consciousness of it come to us, that God is good and that His love and life is for each of us, that the fullness of His great tenderness waits as our portion. Help us to recognize that the fullness of Thy' goodness is with each one of us to-day, with all our faults and shortcomings; with all our failure and sin Thou dost come to us to lift us from what we are to what we ought to be, and that Thou art living to teach us the possibilities before us all. We thank Thee that thou don't call us out to greatness, that for every one there is a place as large as our possibilities, and we ask Thy help that we may fill the largest place to its fullest possibility. Let Thy blessing rest upon us and abundantly direct the proceedings of this meeting. May these, Thy servants, meeting together in the interests of human lives, considering the questions that go to the relief of human weakness, have Thy best blessing. Be Thou the director of these sessions and councils. May there not only come from our quickened and, perfected sense of Thy power, our thankfulness for'it, but may there come to each man and woman of this great assembly an intensified appreciation of the great work before them. We thank Thee for the great success of the medical institutions to-day; we praise Thee and shall recognize Thee so long as Thou dost direct man and woman in this great work which makes more simple the miracles of the past. We thank Thee for having delegated to us in a measure the power to save, and grant, therefore, that we may have the consciousness of Thy power behind us, aiding and directing us, and to Thee will be the glory. Grant that for each, when life's duties are done, it may be ours to find that our lives have been full of ministry for good, and that the common deeds of the common days have rung the bells of the far-away. Inspire and save us, for iesus' sake. Amen. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
