He was probably the son of Benjamin Kuney and Anna Maria Bender. He was living in Pine Grove Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania by 1754. He married Anna Maria in about 1765. They had eight sons, and possibly one daughter. He died in about 1806 in Cumberland County. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania and New York.
