Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thirty-Sixth Annual Report of the Directors of the Providence Athenæum to the Proprietors: Submitted September 25, 1871 In making their annual report, the Directors have little more to do than to present statistics, and formally to return to the hands of the Corporation, to be con signed to the Board for the ensuing year, the care of the interests of the Providence Athenaeum. During the year that has passed no Change has taken place in the executive officers of the institution. Mr. Arnold Green, who was elected a member of the Board of Directors, declined to serve, and Mr. Edward I. Nickerson was chosen to fill the vacancy. The Directors have held their meetings regularly; the committees on the Library and on the Building and Grounds have given much of their time and attention to the special interests in their charge; the bills and accounts have been carefully examined and audited; the property of the Corporation, including books, pic tures and other objects of art, building and grounds and invested funds, is believed to be in as satisfactory a condition as at any previous period.
