Book excerpt: Thomas Stovall (1710-1803) was the son of Bartholomew Stovall (1665- 1721) who was born at Guildford, Surrey, England. Bartholomew emigrated to Virginia in 1684. He married Anne Burton, a daughter of Thomas Burton and his wife Susannah. Thomas Stovall married Elizabeth "Betty" Owen of Henrico County, Virginia. They later lived in Halifax County, Virginia. Bartholomew, son of Thomas, migrated to Warren County, Kentucky. Jesse Stovall, son of Bartholomew migrated to Carroll County, Mo. The Stovall family were registered members of the Society of Friends in Surrey County, England. Descendants are located in Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and elsewhere.
