Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of communications infrastructures has never been as important as it is now. With the increase in cellular phones, the internet, and GPS networks over the last couple decades, the world has entered an information age. While the present networks have performed adequately, they each have their limitations: cell towers are ugly, expensive, fragile, and difficult to construct in certain terrain; the cost of laying cable for internet service increases greatly as the network branches out and approaches customers' homes; GPS has only limited accuracy, which significantly restricts its applications. This book offers a unified solution to the problems of these networks by proposing a method of incorporating fabric-based antennas into the geotextile roadbeds used in highway construction to create a wireless network along the nation's highways. Investigation into various design considerations lead to the conclusion that such a network is possible. The analysis presents an exciting vision of a future with uninhibited connectivity that will be of interest to both professionals and academics working in the areas of electromagnetics and wireless networks.
