Book excerpt: The lack of reliable data on nutritional inadequacies in developing nations is the result of underrecording, unrepresentative samples, variable data collection methods, and inconsistencies in reporting results. Available evidence supports the knowledge of malnutrition and deficiency disease prominence in less-developed countries. Nutrition should be a major concern of all government methods at economic development. The process of malnutrition can only be examined, analyzed, and understood at the micro level where the whole range of factors affecting nutrition are displayed, and individual, community and regional problems can be diagnosed to provide the basis for meaningful action and plans. The problems of village identification of nutrition problems, effective data collection methods, and data sources are addressed within the framework of types of villages. Program implementation at the local level is discussed.
