Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is an initial investigation into polymer waveguides. The CAD program BEAMPROP is utilized for modeling of waveguides. Passive multi-mode and single-mode waveguides are considered. For modeling nonlinear optical polymers, in addition to the BEAMPROPAGATION (BEAMPROP) method, the effective index method and the MARCATILI model are developed. It is shown that a conducting cladding layer for the rectangular waveguides could significantly improve the operation performance of nonlinear optical, poled polymer waveguides.
