Book excerpt: "Over time we have lost an understanding of what physical environments, domains, and war-fighting arenas are and how technology impacts the way in which we apply the principles of war. In recent years, that understanding has been further muddied through the introduction of effective war-fighting in contested environments, anti-access aerial denial, and joint operations in the information environment. These misunderstandings continue to create tactical, operational, and strategic reverberations by inadequately organizing, training, and equipping the youngest and newest operators entering the joint force and the United States Air Force. This paper sets out to establish physical environments, domains, and war-fighting domains. Further, this paper explains how the principles of war are conducted in these war-fighting domains. Finally, this study assesses whether cyberspace is a war-fighting domain or if cyberspace is part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum war-fighting domain."--Abstract.
