The Mather family were Quakers originally from Pennsylvania who settled in Turtlecreek Township, Warren County, Ohio. Two of the letters were written by David Mather (1810-1874) and one was a combined letter written by Charles E. Mather (1816-1902) and Elizabeth Longstreth Mather (1783-1845) on August 23, 1842. The first letter written by David Mather on March 19th, 1827 was addressed to friend William Wilkinson of Philadelphia and the second letter written on August 18, 1857 was addressed to his sister Susanna Longstreth Horney (1820-1886) of the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The third letter was written by Charles and E. (presumably Elizabeth Longstreth) Mather to Susanna Longstreth (Aunt of Charles, David and Susanna, and sister of Elizabeth) of the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 23, 1842.
