Book excerpt: Profiles of Patriots: A Biographical Reference of American Revolutionary War Patriots and their Descendants is a compilation of thirty-one biographies of American Revolutionary War patriots and includes an introduction and brief history of the Williamsburg, Virginia, chapter of the DAR and its founders. This book is a commemorative work celebrating the chapter's 90th anniversary of its founding in 1925 and the 125th anniversary of the National Society's founding in 1890. Each biography summarizes the patriot's service record in the War of Independence, as well as key biographical information. In addition, each author of these biographies is a direct descendant of the patriot and in some cases provides a summary of lineage to assist in reference for furthering genealogy research. This book provides a unique look into the history of both rank-and-file soldiers, as well as officers and other patriots, and includes references to unique family oral histories and primary sources.
