They account for a significant portion of employment and contribute to innovation and economic growth both in developed and emerging economies. Strength SMEs have a direct impact on job creation and stimulate economic activity in local communities. It can also help to promote entrepreneurship and encourage the development of new ideas and innovations. All of these factors contribute to the overall well-being of societies and communities worldwide. However, SMEs often face considerable challenges in obtaining financing, limiting their ability to thrive. SME finance is crucial for the economy because it helps these businesses access the capital they need to invest in their operations, hire employees, and pursue new opportunities. By providing access to financing, SMEs can grow and contribute to the health and vitality of the economy. In perfect markets, high margins attract new players, and the increase in competition creates innovations that will decrease the price of accessing goods. At the same time, it promotes access to specific consumers who, at the previous point, do not have access to it. Nonetheless, this does not happen in the SME finance market, especially in emerging - and imperfect - economies. This can take the form of loans, lines of credit, or other financial instruments that have enormous differences in price despite targeting similar customers. This study aims to understand the roots of the interest rate for SME lending in different aspects of emerging markets, particularly focusing on Brazil. This study also aims to collect data, conduct qualitative interviews, and understand the financial technologies applied to increase competition, reduce interest rates, and promote access to financial products.
