Book excerpt: You Violated Me, You Stole from Me Creepin' dun crept into my space one too many times. Creepin' dun crept and stole from me what was mine. Creepin' dun crept and took all my goods away. Creepin' dun crept and stole my life away. Creepin' seeped through my door while I was esleepin'. Took from me what creepin' should not have been seekin'. Creepin' violated me and stole me from myself. Creepin' revisited me one summer noon. Took all Mom's letters, thesis notes, and used shoes. Creepin' crept and took my personals. Creepin' knows me but I dun know creepin'. Creepin' crept, stole, and violated me during times when I was too blind to see Creepin' crept and stole my life one childhood night; took from me what was mine even before I knew what was right. Creepin' dun came thru' one morning one Wednesday afternoon a week ago Creepin' crept and stole my soul Creepin' stole my tunes and blues away Creepin' crept through da window and out da door. Creepin' dun, dun me wrong one too many times Stole my personals, my memories, and da music which served as my sunshine. Creepin' dun crept into my heart one too many times Made me a woman, left me empty, and opened doors locked with keys. For some odd reason Creepin' keep on visiting me. Roberta S. White March 22, 2001 Inspired by the Break-In of my Jeep last Wednesday SEVEN: The Number of Completion I am not the man I used to be One day God stepped in and delivered me Stage One The Lost Soul On Day One: God reached for my heart for God knew that by touching my heart I would have no choice but to hold His hand On Day Two: God spoke to me and encouraged me to be fearless of this metamorphosis: God shook me up, and put me down, He placed my feet on solid ground Stage Two Hunted By The Will Of God On Day Three: God convinced me that He is and I am not: He took away my gifts, and talents, and possessions until I ran to Him begging for mercy On Day Four: God removed people from my path, both good and bad, so that I solely relied on Him; In the beginning I felt lonely; good-bye pleasures of sin, no instant gratification, I thought I was broken On Day Five: The Lord sat back in His rocking chair as he watched me search for ways to dodge Him; all along he had my coattail. I was running in circles, running, running, running Stage Three-Submission To Divine Authority On Day Six: God sped up my race until I could run no more. I no longer desired worldly pleasures; I had a thirst for Christ. And I spoke these words, "Lord, I need a closer walk with thee. I need you to quench my thirst. I am lonely. Where are you God? Where am I God? Why me Lord? On Day Seven: God answered my questions when he began my Christian Journey as a pastor, a father, and a son of Christ. With God as my witness, I am complete!" By Roberta Sonsaray White Written June 6, 2002a Dedicated to the Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Daniels, Jr. In celebration of 10 years of spiritual guidance Mama used to say Mama used to say: If the good lord just hold us 'til next Pay, I'll buy enough food to carry us Along the way. These are some words my mama Said. Girl, you can be anything you want to be, Don't settle for a knucklehead, Nor let anyone cause you misery. My black queen, my mommy, said these words To me. I wish I were you and could say the things you do. You are a good writer, cakes; Better writer than talker, Lord knows you can talk! Mama used to tell me my worth. Mama wrote in a letter to me:
