When the first edition of this volume was published, many researchers were making the transition from mail to face-to-face interviewing to telephone surveys. The author also analyzes the comparative advantages and disadvantages of mail, face-to-face and telephone surveys, and discusses the legal and ethical dilemmas raised by technological and methodological developments in telephone survey research.
