Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data from a large, national mortgage origination and servicing company were used to examine the issues related to turnover in 31 sales regions over an 18 month period, January 1996-July 1997. Organizational subunit characteristics, performance measures, and employee attitudes toward managers were studied to investigate their relation to various measures of turnover. Limited support was found for propositions associating organizational subunit characteristics and employee attitudes toward management with turnover. However, the proposition associating financial performance and productivity indicators with turnover demonstrated a significant negative relationship. This finding was particularly significant in the relationship between voluntary and total turnover with subunit profitability and customer satisfaction. Results are discussed within the context of the literature on turnover and in terms of their implications for the organization studied.
