Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 70 years after the lifting of the lid from the Sarcophagus, this book focuses on the monument. Following a detailed analysis of the sarcophagus's architecture and decoration, this book focuses on hitherto unrecognized evidence that the box was altered in antiquity, in all likelihood to adapt it to Tutankhamun from a previous owner. The list of possible candidates for the original ownership of the box is reviewed, with the balance of the evidence favouring Tutankhamun's immediate predecessor, his putative brother, Smenkhare. The text, which includes translation of and a commentary on the inscriptions, is illustrated by Harry Burton's photographs taken during the clearing of the tomb. The author is a specialist in the history, art history and archaeology of the reign of Tutankhamun.
