Humorous observations and wistful recollections take us from the author's childhood home-where her father stokes the morning fire and her mother sews clothes from flour sacks-to her easy chair, where she delights in the pleasures and privileges of aging, from naps to ice-cream lunches with pals. Tin Cans and Toothpicks and Other Treasures reminds us that while times have changed, we always can slow down and savor the beauty of friends, family, and simple joys. Tiny Striegel, born in 1921, is retired from a career in the medical field and lives in her hometown of Canon City, Colorado, with her Pomeranian, Miss Tilde. She enjoys crafting, volunteering, and painting. Her portraits of prominent citizens reside in the permanent collection of the local museum. Other works include two books of poetry, Memoirs in Rhyme and My Second Book of Rhymes, and the hardbacks People, Pets, and Places (Vantage Press, 2003) and World War I-A Soldier's Letters Home (Xlibris Corp., 2009), featuring excerpts of her father's letters to her mother during his service.
