Book excerpt: Excerpt from Transactions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Vol. 2 The President and the Treasurer for one year; and no person shall be eligible for immediate re-election as President who shall have held that office for two consecutive years; the vice-presi dents for two years and the Managers for three years; and no vice-president or Manager shall be eligible for immediate re election to the same office at the expiration of the term for which he was elected. Art. 22. A Secretary, who shall be a member of the Society, shall be appointed for one year by a majority of the members of the Council at its first meeting after the annual election, or as soon thereafter as the votes of a majority of the members of the Council can be secured for a candidate. The Secretary may be removed by a vote of twelve members of the Council, at any time after one month's notice has been given him by a majority of its members to Show cause why he should not be removed, and he has been heard to that effect. The Secretary may take part in any of the deliberations of the Council, but shall not have a vote therein. His salary shall be fixed for the time he is appointed by a majority vote of the Council. Art. 23. At each annual meeting, a President, three vice-presi dents, three Managers and a Treasurer shall be elected, and the term of office of each Shall continue until the end of the meeting at which their successors are elected. Art. 24. The duties of all officers shall be such as usually per tain to their offices or may be delegated to them by the Council or by the Society. The Council may, in its discretion, require bonds to be given by the Treasurer. Art. 25. The Council may, by vote of a majority of all its members, declare the place of any officer vacant, on his failure for one year, from inability or otherwise, to attend the Council meet ings, or to. Perform the duties of his office. All such vacancies and those occurring by death or resignation shall be filled by the appointment of the Council, and any person so appointed shall hold office for the remainder of the term for which his predecessor was elected or appointed; provided that the said appointment shall not render him ineligible at the next annual meeting.
