The relation of youth's new time to the experience of age; education, which for so many years is his major interest; the spirit of America, and especially disputed points of economic and political organization; the changing nature of our population, with its difficulties of adjustment of racial elements; the new and growing importance of women in the state; the problem of international organization; and, finally, the importance of spiritual values - these are the themes which the essays in this book illustrate. Those essays have been chosen which seem most likely to set young people thinking, to challenge them to hold opinions of their own, and to stimulate them to a search for further knowledge.
